100+ Women Who Care
100+ Women Who Care
Welcome to 100+ Women Who Care Santa Cruz!
We welcome you to the Santa Cruz, California chapter of 100+ Women Who Care. We invite you to become part of this powerful group to have a positive impact on those in need here in Santa Cruz County, without the time-consuming effort we all associate with fundraising. (Yes, it IS possible!)
This project is for you if:
•You don’t have time in your busy life to volunteer but have been wanting to help those in need, and you can commit to one hour every three months;
•You are involved with other groups but also see the potential in this idea and are interested in adding it to your charitable efforts;
•If you want 100% of your donations to go directly to a local charity;
•If you want your generous donation to become a part of a large amount of money by joining together with other women—creating a powerful impact in our local area.

Our next meeting is Wednesday, June 5, 2013
Please join us at the Center Street Grill, 1001 Center Street, Santa Cruz from 6:30 to 7:30. Read more about the meeting and the nominees on our Meetings page.
Our last donation was $7,800 to Branciforte Middle School Digital Media Lab
On March 6, 2013, we donated to Branciforte Middle School Digital Media Center Lab. The Branciforte Technology Committee, along with the B40 staff and Home and School Club envision a space at the school where ALL students will have access to technology. It will be a place where students, parents, and community members can embrace 21st century learning together. Read more about our 100 Women Who Care donation on our Meetings page.
With this latest donation, the total that we’ve raised for groups here in Santa Cruz is $79,400! Look what a great group of generous and thoughtful women can do when they put their minds to it!
Here's how it works:

By joining, you agree to attend a meeting from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of March, June, September, and December and bring a check each time for $100. We invite you to attend any time as a guest to see how it works and decide if the group is right for you.
1.Every member can nominate local charities, non-profits, or worthy causes, whose names are then put into a bucket.
2.Three names are drawn at random at each meeting
3.A 100 Women Who Care member makes a short presentation about each cause
4.We all vote on which cause to support.
The top vote-getting charity then receives all the checks, made out to them on the spot!
On each of four nights during the year, these 100+ Women Who Care give up to $10,000 to a local charity, non-profit, or worthy cause, right here in the Santa Cruz County community. It's fast, simple and amazingly effective.
Who are 100 Women Who Care?

100 Women Who Care was started in November of 2006 by Karen Dunigan of Jackson, Michigan, as a brilliantly simple way to raise money efficiently and quickly for local charities. Her group of 100 women, at their first one-hour meeting, each wrote a check for $100 directly to the charity, raising $10,000 to buy 300 new baby cribs for an organization in their city. Since then, they have grown to over 200 members and 100 Women Who Care chapters are forming all over the country. Nationally, the groups have donated more than $250,000 to locally based organizations.
Sandy Skees brought the idea home to Santa Cruz the fall of 2009 after a visit with her mother, who belongs to a chapter in Ohio. For information giving circles or how to start one of your own, contact Sandy at sandy@communications4good.com.
Diane Lamotte serves as the group’s treasurer, in charge of tallying votes and handing over the checks to the lucky recipient each meeting in the hand-made bags she creates just for 100 Women Who Care Santa Cruz.
If you would like to nominate a worthy cause, please fax a Charitable Organization Nomination Form (100WWC_SC_Charity_form.pdf) to Kirsti Scott, who is community relations liaison with 100+ Women Who Care Santa Cruz. Fax your Charitable Organization Fact Sheet at least two days before the meeting to 831-688-8181. This form lets 100 Women Who Care check out the charity and list them on the website before the meeting. It is not used to make presentations at the meeting. Remember, a member of Women Who Care Santa Cruz must be present at the quarterly meeting to make the presentation about the charity.
